Black streaks are caused by a air born algae called Gloeocapsa Magma. This algae feeds on the limestone used in asphalt shingles. Rain spreads the algae down the roof, causing the black streaks. Some roof contractors don't know what these stains are, convincing home owners to replace their roof prematurely.
DON'T REPLACE IT, CLEAN IT.
This algae can be removed and killed without damaging your roof using low pressure chemical application.
NEVER USE HIGH PRESSURE CLEANING! This will blow granules off shingles lessoning you roof's longevity.
NOTE: Every roof is different and the results can vary depending on the condition of your shingles. Give us a call for a free consultation and estimate.
